The ABC’s of Life for Children and Adults (Xulon Press, 2003) is a book depicting Biblical principles and morals of life society seems to have lost. Through writing the book, Pam hoped to teach children, and remind adults about values such as honesty, decency, and a strong work ethic by emphasizing their importance throughout this book.
ABC‘s used in the title is intended to be an acronym for: Abolishing apathetic attitudes; Building Biblical behavior patterns; and, Choosing Christ-like character. Pam proposed that through reminding ourselves and teaching our children healthy attitudes and behavior Christians could make a difference that would result in worldwide revival. She believed that a Christ-like character needs to be displayed and encouraged by Christians of all denominations.
Pam divided The ABC’s of Life into three sections. Stories in section one, “Fiction for the Children” would appeal to the younger reader; however, adults also will enjoy reading this section. Nonfiction material in section two, “Lessons Learned from Life’s Realities”, developed from experiences in the author’s life, or the lives of individuals influential in her life. Older readers will benefit more from this section. Section three, “Moments from the Heart”, contains the lyrics of a collection of songs written by the author. In addition, this section includes poetry written by Pam or her father.
Pam concluded The ABC’s of Life with a list of what she entitled ABC’s TO SUCCESSFUL LIVING. The list included positive qualities, which she hoped everyone reading this book would strive to possess. She credited the hand of the Lord with this book’s existence. Any good coming from this book’s contents were given to the glory of God. Pam’s primary purpose in writing The ABC’s of Life was to glorify the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. However, with the book not selling well, Pam knew there was a problem.
Why the Need for a Revised Edition?
To be honest, Pam did not practice what she preached when she had The ABC’s of Life first published. In the initial stages of writing the earlier book, Pam had planned to include poems written by both her father and her mother. Without telling her parents she pulled poems during the final editing due to tight finances and “unfinished business” internally. Finally, realizing how deeply she had hurt her parents, Pam knew she wanted to right the wrong. Her conviction of this realization led to an apology. No doubt, you have heard people use the expression, “putting feet to your prayers”. Well, Pam believed the opportunity to write and publish The New ABC’s of Life for Children and Adults: Short Stories, Essays, and Poems Promoting Christian Concepts (ABC’s Ministries, 2016) was God allowing her to put feet to her apology to right the wrong committed in 2003.
In addition to the omitted poems written earlier by either her father or her mother, The New ABC’s of Life for Children and Adults includes “Questions for Reflection” at the end of each fiction and non-fiction story. Also, Pam added additional Scripture references and their application at the end of each fiction story for children. These additions were prompted by the number of parents who told Pam they had used the earlier version of The ABC’s of Life as a devotional guide with their children. Pam’s hope and prayer was and continues to be that these new chapter tools will help even more parents in teaching their children biblically based morals. Furthermore, Pam made revisions in the book chapters and included new stories not previously published. The New ABC’s of Life for Children and Adults is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and at your local bookstore, upon request.
The ABC’s TO SUCCESSFUL LIVING
The ABC’s TO SUCCESSFUL LIVING, which concluded The ABC’s of Life, was moved to the front of The New ABC’s of Life. This change was intended to give more relevance to the positive qualities that Pam believes each of us individuals should strive to develop as part of our character. During the fall of 2018, Pam created a daily series on the business page for ABC’s Ministries at Facebook to explain each of the ABC’s TO SUCCESSFUL LIVING. The links are given below:
