Are you struggling with food issues, either over or undereating? Or do you simply want to get healthier in the new year? If so, then perhaps the new online support group at Facebook Food as an Idol: A Christian Approach to Healthy Weight Loss & Maintenance is for you. If not for you, then perhaps you know someone whom you might like to refer to the group.
Through the online group Food as an Idol, we will offer encouragement and Christian based education to both men and women alike to help those struggling to get to the roots of their disordered eating and to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Additionally, we will encourage members to live lifestyles that promote optimum health and wellness reflecting the love of Christ.
Food as an Idol was born out of my personal struggles with food and body image issues throughout my childhood and young adult years. Through my educational and personal life experience, I have realized that key points in overcoming and finding freedom from disordered eating that is stressed within Food as an Idol are to recognize both over and under eating as a symptom of something missing deeper within the heart of an individual and that disordered eating is a barrier between one’s relationship with God. Not until one discovers the roots of disordered eating and surrenders his or her appetites to God can one find true freedom and deliverance from disordered eating.
Other key points I believe one must embrace to overcome disordered eating and to reach optimum wellness are seeing ourselves as God sees us, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14); and also, for Christians, recognizing one’s body as the temple of God (I Corinthians 6:19-20). For further information regarding group rules, etc., my husband and I invite you to visit Food as an Idol.
